This week, my website (this one) ticked past the fifteen-thousand hit-mark since I started it about nine months ago. That means that I’ve had fifteen thousand visitors to my pages (much of the hits clocked up by those of you who are my faithful and valued regulars). I realise that in the grand scheme of the interwebs this isn’t a huge number at all. In fact, the photos on my flickr site have clocked almost a million hits since I started posting in late 2005. Happily I’m not striving for web fame, just for a place to share some of my travels and adventures, and the things that I get to see, with those of you who are interested. But the fact that so many of you have chosen to drop by, take a glance at some of my photos, read my ramblings, and occasionally leave a little comment, is deeply appreciated. So thank you to each and every one of you for taking the time to visit- I am very humbled.
When I first started this site (and you can read my opening post here), I made it clear that I had a specific vision for the pages herein. You’ll notice too that I consistently refuse to call this a ‘blog’- a rather distasteful term coughed up by the bastardization of the English language across the e-sphere, imho (recognizing, however, that there are a good many exceptional ‘blogs’ out there). I’d hesitate even to call it an online journal, given that I try not to devote many entries to the goings-on of my daily life. Maybe, given its current linear format, it’s a little presumptuous to refer to it as a website (which I do), but I like to think that by jumping between times, places and themes, I keep the variety here stimulating enough that the thing doesn’t get too stayed.
Anyways, that’s far too much narcisistic rambling for one night, so I’ll cap it off there. Suffice to say, more than half a year and fifteen thousand hits on, I refer you back to my opening post and trust that I’ve been true enough to my word and the guarantees I made about the content. Once again I invite you, my readers, to hold me to account, and if I’m posting too much self-centred drivel (like this sort of thing), then let me know and get me back on track.
And waffle (rules were made to be broken) aside, thanks once again for coming to see my little page here, and have yourself a lovely day. I hope to have lots more [more meaningful] posts for you in the coming weeks…
