I’m off to Indonesia today. Leaving this place behind. I’m not sorry. Well, I am in some ways. There are good people here, and I could fill a few more weekends with wakeboarding and kite surfing very happily. But the war has been doing my head in, the constant barrage of propaganda and incessant lies from all sides, and the tragic bloodlust coupled with dangerous ignorance that is just sad to watch. So for the good of my head I’m pleased to be moseying on.
I’ve not been to Indonesia before. Not that that means much. Lots of places I still haven’t been. I doubt I’ll get to explore much. As is often the case with these trips. As much as I’ve been briefed to date I understand I’ll be helping out with an emergency simulation exercise we’re running. Beyond that, I’m not too sure. But it’s always fun to check out someplace new, and the good news is I should be out of Jakarta for a few days (see earlier comments about cities not usually being my first choice locations). There should also be a bunch of friends out there from various corners of the world, so I’m looking forward to catching up. No idea if I’ll get to take any photos while I’m out there though.
So I apologize in advance if my posts drop off for a couple of weeks. I may have good internet access, or I may have none, and I may have time to be writing and posting, or I may be flat out with other work tasks. I guess we’ll all find out together. But anyway, thanks for dropping by, as always, and I’ll catch you very soon.

looking forward to hearing stories and impressions from Jawa already!
only been on the tourist trail from Bali to Flores though one of my best friends (Scottish mind you) moved to Jawa this year with her hubby… so i’m follow suite in due time.
reading naomi klien’s shock doctrine by the way – recommended. she may be biased, but as always well researched, and more than a little scary.
then again.. enough with the seriousness – wishing you an awesome chillout!
